UPN Hits 'South Beach' in January

(Posted December 2, 2005 by Leah Yoakum)

While Tyra Banks and her bevy of wannabe supermodels take a wintertime break, UPN will head to the tropical environs of "South Beach."

The network unveiled its rather short midseason roster Wednesday (Nov. 30). Only two new shows will make their debuts in January, with the recently announced unscripted show "Get This Party Started" joining the Jennifer Lopez-produced drama "South Beach" on the schedule.

First up will be "South Beach," which will fill the 8 p.m. Wednesday timeslot between cycles of "America's Next Top Model." It will open with a two-hour premiere on Jan. 11.

The show follows best friends Matt (Marcus Coloma, "Point Pleasant") and Vincent (Chris Johnson, "XXX: State of the Union"), who have left their previous lives behind and moved to the glam Miami neighborhood of the title. Matt is chasing his model ex-girlfriend (Odette Yustman), while the ambitious Vincent wades into the city's underworld. Giancarlo Esposito ("Homicide," "Derailed") and Vanessa L. Williams ("Boomtown," "Johnson Family Vacation") also star.

"Get This Party Started," an unscripted show in which high-end party planners put together bashes for deserving everyday folks, is set to premiere Tuesday, Jan. 24. New episodes will air in the 9 p.m. ET spot where the drama "Sex, Love & Secrets" fizzled earlier this season. Starting Jan. 31, an encore of the previous week's "Party" will air at 8 p.m. Tuesdays.

A premiere date for the sixth edition of "Top Model" hasn't been set, but the show is likely to return in March.
